Metered
A Tribute to The Meters
Metered celebrates the music of one the most influential funk bands of the late 60’s and 70’s. A New Orleans JAM-balaya of cajun soul, bass driven funk and mardi gras party music, The Meters helped shape the landscape of funk music as we know it today. Musicians who tend to lean to the audible spectrum of chanking guitar, gyrational bass lines, Doppler effected organ swells and a distinctive back beat, most likely were directly or indirectly influenced by The Meters. Screaming into popularity during the height of the hippy movement with instrumental hits such as Sophisticated Cissy and Cissy Strut and then into the 70’s with tracks like, Just Kissed My Baby and Hey Pockey Way. Throughout the 70's, The Meters were the backing band on many successful mainstream artist recordings such as Robert Palmer, Paul McCartney, Dr. John, King Biscuit Boy, and Allen Toussaint.
Metered captures a broad arc of The Meters song book while keeping the integrity of the spontaneous live improvisational zeitgeist that popularizes them throughout the live performance circuit. Listen as they criss-cross The Meters entire catalog without vacating the many studio recordings where The Meters appeared as "the little-known backup band." Metered will delve into many cover song renditions of classic Meters performances as well as occasionally meandering through the radio dial of the era.
Metered is a project conceptualized by local Philadelphia tri-state area musician Tom Patti whose passion for instrumental funk music has sculpted the backbone to his lifelong journey into groove-oriented guitar.
